Take Action

The Valles Caldera National Preserve continues to face an uncertain future. The continuing effort to have our Preserve transferred to the National Park Service is held up in the Congress by wrangling among members. Senate Bill 564 awaits action in the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Please write to the senator from your state if you live outside New Mexico and urge them to support this bill. If you live in New Mexico, please contact our two Senators and Congressman Ben Ray Lujan and urge action on the bill.

The VCNP will be transferred to the US Forest Service as multiple use land in 2020 if Congress does not act before then. We believe the Preserve deserves better funding and the higher level of protection and education programs that the National Park Service would provide. We have found that there is widespread support for NPS management by politicians, agency leaders from both the US Forest Service and the National Park Service, and among the public in New Mexico.

Caldera Action will continue our efforts in this regard. Please make a donation to Caldera Action to help us continue our work.
